Mark Padmore - tenor

Mark Padmore was born in London and studied at King’s College, Cambridge. His international career ranges between opera, concerts and recitals. His appearances in Bach’s Passions have garnered particular attention, especially his renowned performances as the Evangelist in the Matthew and John Passions with the Berlin Philharmonic and Simon Rattle, staged by Peter Sellars.
The current season is focused on recitals, among which the performances in Barcelona and Madrid with Julius Drake stand out; in Alicante with the Elias String Quartet; at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam with Till Fellner; at the Théâtre de l’Athénée in Paris with Julius Drake and Schubert’s Winterreise with Mitsuko Uchida at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and at the University of California at Berkeley.
After a residency at the Wigmore Hall in the 2021/22 season, in which he celebrated his collaboration with pianists Till Fellner, Imogen Cooper, Mitsuko Uchida and Paul Lewis, he returned to the Wigmore Hall last season singing Vaughan Williams and Fauré with the Elias Quartet and James Baillieu.
He was Artist in Residence for the 2017/18 season with the Berlin Philharmonic and with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2016/17. With the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment he has created projects exploring both Bach’s conductorless John Passion and St. Matthew Passion, which have generated excitement around the world.
