Malion Quartet
Shortly after the foundation (in 2018), the quartet became a scholarship holder of the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz Foundation and won numerous prizes in national and international competitions such as the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb 2022, as well as the Irene Steels International String Quartet Competition. Wilsing-Foundation 2023 and the 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.
The quartet has performed at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Izumi Hall in Osaka, the Beethovenfest in Bonn and the Cité de la Musique in Paris, as part of the String Quartet Biennale 2022. It has been selected as “Quartet in Residence” at the Holzhausenschlösschen in Frankfurt for 2023.
It has collaborated with artists such as Alfred Brendel, Kit Armstrong and the Quatuor Hanson, with the composer Jörg Widmann, and with Martin Stadtfeld, Hariolf Schlichtig and the Vogler Quartet.
Passionate supporter of music education, he has developed a special concert format: ON/OFFstage. Based on this concept, the group founded many of its projects, such as the Malion Music Festival and a concert series called “What has Beethoven got to do with me?”. Their music video of Beethoven’s “Great Fugue” was nominated for a 2022 Opus Klassik award.
In late 2023, the Malion Quartet released a debut album, which received high praise from print critics.
The young quartet is generously supported by Deutsche Musikrat, GVL, Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung, PE-Förderungen Mannheim and Freunde der Villa Musica. The quartet studied with Tim Vogler, Oliver Wille, Eberhard Feltz, as well as members of the Alban Berg Quartet and Cuarteto Casals.
