Sonia Formenti – flute

She studied with the masters Carlo Tabarelli and Gabriele Gallotta at the Milan Conservatory, graduating in 2001 in flute with full marks and honours. As soon as she graduated she was admitted to the Academy for orchestra teachers of the Teatro alla Scala in the classes of Glauco Cambursano and Davide Formisano.
As a soloist she performs with the Orchestra of the Brescia International Piano Festival at the Teatro Verdi Trieste, the Turin Philharmonic and the Italian Philamonic Orchestra, the Cantelli Orchestra, the Orchestra of Magna Graecia. Member of mdi ensemble, she has carried out an intense concert activity for years in international contexts such as the MNM Festival in Montreal in Canada, Rairadio3, Japan Foundation in Rome, ContemporaneaMente 2005, Lacma museum Los Angeles, Palma de Mallorca Festival, Stuttgart Festival, Dusseldorf , Dortmund, Cologne Konzerthaus, SWR, Venice Biennale, MiTo, Festival Milano Musica, The Milan Quartet Society, Radio France’s Festival Présences in Paris, Sermoneta Festival, Acht Brüchen Festival in Cologne.
Always in the role of first flute she played with the Orchestra of the Teatro dell’ Opera of Rome, the Orchestra of Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan, the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Orchestra of the musical Maggio of Florence, participating in prestigious operatic and symphonic productions directed by conductors such as Metha, Noseda, Gelmetti, Santi, Rophe, Lombard, Fisch, Axelrod, Mariotti, R. Abbado, Bartoletti, Pal, Reck, Neschling, Tamayo, Encinar, Steinberg, Luisotti, Abbado.
She has also played with the Sinfonica de Galicia, the Chamber Orchestra of Mantua, Fvg orchestra, Filarmonica of Turin, OFI, Orchestra of the Swiss Italian Radio, the Philharmonic of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the Verdi of Milan, the Orchestra of the Theater at La Scala in Milan and the Filarmonica della Scala with conductors such as Bychkov, Baremboim, Conlon, Chailly, Gergiev.
Since November 2023 she has held the flute chair at the Como Conservatory.
