Concert in the series Beyond the Classical Form, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) and SIAE, within the framework of the Per Chi Crea programme, with additional support from Ruberti e Associati.

Questioning the future of chamber music… starting from the audience. A string quartet with two cellos — like this rare work by Anton Arensky presented here — inspires the entire conception of the concert, since it is an uncommon, indeed extremely rare, sight to encounter two dark-toned string instruments seated within the same ensemble.

Trio Quodlibet and Giovanni Maccarini take advantage of this unusual feature to rethink the entire arrangement of the performance space, inviting the audience to adopt a new perspective on chamber music. This choice reshapes the geography of the hall while simultaneously suggesting an unexpected pairing with the Russian composer Gubaidulina and her celebrated preludes for solo cello. After all, with one extra cello than usual, why not explore it in as many different forms as possible?
