Carolin Widmann is a violinist known for her exceptional versatility, with an artistic profile spanning the core classical concert repertoire, contemporary commissioned works, solo recitals, chamber music, and performances on historical instruments.
She has received major distinctions, including the Bayerischer Staatspreis für Musik (2017) and an International Classical Music Award for her recording of the Mendelssohn and Schumann violin concertos with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (ECM, 2016), a project in which she also served as conductor.
She was named “Musician of the Year” at the International Classical Music Awards in 2013 and has performed with leading international orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has collaborated with conductors including Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Riccardo Chailly, and is regularly invited to major European festivals.
In recent seasons she has expanded her activity internationally, with engagements with leading orchestras worldwide. In the 2025/26 season she is scheduled to make several European debuts and serve as Artist-in-Residence at the Philharmonie Essen, alongside chamber music projects and touring with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin as leader.
