Gian Luca Rovelli was born in 1983 and studied piano with N. Parente, G. Gili, and P. Masi. A decisive moment in his artistic development was his encounter with Emilia Fadini, with whom he studied harpsichord, Baroque and Renaissance performance practice, and basso continuo at the Scuola Musicale di Milano.
In 2013 he won First Prize at the 6th National Harpsichord Competition of Acqui Terme (Alessandria). Since 2015 he has collaborated with the ensemble Imaginaire under the direction of C. Corrieri, with whom he recorded the complete concertos of F. Durante and a programme dedicated to Salve Regina settings by L. Leo, G. B. Pergolesi, and N. Porpora.
He completed his academic training with a Master’s degree in Musicology at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage in Cremona. He continues his musicological research in collaboration with Emilia Fadini, focusing on Baroque and late Renaissance performance practice. He edited the critical edition of Felice Alessandri’s two harpsichord sonatas (Armelin, Padua). In 2019 he published the article Riflessioni intorno all’esecuzione del trillo in J. S. Bach, co-authored with Emilia Fadini, in Rassegna Musicale Curci. In 2020 he contributed a biographical profile of Emilia Fadini in Cedere il passo al sogno. L’esperienza musicale di E. Fadini (LIM – Libreria Musicale Italiana).
He performs in a duo with M. Gaggini, dedicated to the rediscovery of repertoire for two harpsichords; together they recorded the complete trios of François Couperin, transcribed for two keyboard instruments.
Gian Luca Rovelli will take part in Trame Sonore 2026 as a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
