Irena Kavčič performs both as a soloist and as principal flute in various European orchestras, such as the Slovenian Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, the Orchestra Leonore, the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, the Haydn Philharmonie, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, the Sony Chamber Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra.

She has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Teatro alla Scala, the Wiener Musikverein, the Auditorio Nacional de Música, and the Palau de la Música de València. She is also invited to international festivals such as the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, the Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander, as well as the Trame Sonore and the Dino Ciani Festival.

She was a founding member of chamber ensembles including Quartetto Nereide, Ensemble Extimité, and Quintetto Pentada, with which she won numerous first prizes in international competitions.

As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with Alexander Lonquich, Pekka Kuusisto, Umberto Clerici, Jeffrey Swann, Nils Mönkemeyer, Claudio Martínez Mehner, and Andreas Ottensamer.

She has also received awards and recognitions as a soloist, including the Prešeren Award and a Yamaha scholarship. She began her studies with Maja Klanjšcek and Alenka Zupan, graduating from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under the guidance of Carolina Šantl-Zupan, and later specialized at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Gisela Mashayekhi-Beer, and at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid with Jacques Zoon and Aniela Frey.

Irena Kavčič will participate in Trame Sonore 2026 as a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
