The Sidera Saxophone Quartet is composed of musicians among the most active and representative figures in the contemporary Italian music scene, united by the aim of enriching and disseminating the contemporary and experimental repertoire for this ensemble, ranging from historical modernism to the most recent works, including electronics.
Despite being a recently formed ensemble, the Sidera Saxophone Quartet has already performed in major contexts such as the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona, Festival Angelica, Amici della Musica di Modena, Festival Orizzonti, Amici della Musica di Perugia, Area Sismica, Festival Musicale Piceno, iISUONO Festival 2022, CIM – Colloquio di Informatica Musicale, and the GAMO concert season. Recognized as an inspired interpreter and tireless promoter of contemporary music, the quartet is already the dedicatee of numerous works, including Quadrangoli d’autunno (2021) by Salvatore Sciarrino (with support from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation), Neuromante X 4 by Luigi Ceccarelli, Organum III by Francesco Antonioni, and Improvviso Statico III (2022) for saxophone quartet and augmented percussion by Carmine Emanuele Cella.
In June 2022, their first recording was released, featuring world premiere recordings of works by F. Antonioni, S. Bussotti, L. Ceccarelli, R. Doati, S. Scodanibbio, and A. Solbiati. Koinè – Musica contemporanea italiana per quartetto di saxofoni (EmaVinci, 2022) received immediate critical acclaim from specialist press.
A forthcoming release for the AngelicA music research center will include Quadrangoli d’autunno by Sciarrino, Improvviso III by Cella (dedicated to the SSQ), and SAXONY by James Tenney.
