On board the legendary Orient Express, the musical journey of the MidtVest Ensemble begins, crossing Europe from Paris to the edges of the East. Like a moving vintage carriage between borders, the concert opens with the dreamlike atmosphere of France in La vie en rose, then bursts into the festive rhythms of a Bohemian polka and the famous arias from Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
As the journey continues eastward, the soundscape transforms: Bartók’s dances and Ligeti’s inventions lead into the heart of the Balkans, among folk resonances and village memories. The final stop is Fazıl Say’s Turkey, where a driving energy brings the journey to Istanbul in a celebratory atmosphere.
With the MidtVest Ensemble, music becomes the railway on which different cultures and histories flow past: a sonic adventure celebrating the encounter between distant peoples and traditions.
