Cinema Mignon

Cinema Mignon

Founded in 1947 under the name Cinema Teatro Lux, next to the church of Santa Apollonia, it began as a parish cinema serving the neighbourhood of Fiera Catena, with programming aimed at local families. In the 1970s it entered a period of decline, until 1977, when a group of film enthusiasts took over its management with the aim of turning it into a stronghold of auteur cinema.

The following year, the change of name to Mignon marked the birth of a small but resilient cultural landmark, the expression of a collective venture carried forward with energy, determination, and a deep love for cinema. Since then, the Mignon has brought some of the best international cinema to Mantua, building lasting relationships with several of the most significant filmmakers in the Italian film scene.

Still active after nearly eighty years, it remains one of the city’s most deeply rooted cultural spaces, faithful to its original cinephile vocation.
