Anna-Lena Elbert

Anna-Lena Elbert

Soprano

Anna-Lena Elbert, soprano born in Munich, is one of the most internationally recognized singers, with a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music. She regularly performs the oratorios of composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Mendelssohn, and appears with major European orchestras including the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra.

A central aspect of her artistic profile is her commitment to contemporary music: she collaborates closely with composers such as Konstantia Gourzi, Jan Müller-Wieland, and Gordon Kampe. With the latter, she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 2020 and at the Salzburg Festival in 2022 in several world premieres. She has also performed György Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre under Iván Fischer at major European festivals and at the BBC Proms.

Deeply connected to early music, she received significant training from Christine Schornsheim, Kristin von der Goltz, and Friederike Heumann. Among her recent engagements is a performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in other European venues.

She also collaborates with Johanna Soller on a recording project dedicated to the cantatas of Johann Ludwig Bach, and has recorded Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ under the direction of Frieder Bernius. She was a scholarship holder of the MozartLabor at the Mozartfest Würzburg and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

In 2024 she made her debut as Zerbinetta in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at the Festival dei Due Mondi with the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, with further performances scheduled in Budapest and Vicenza. Her most recent projects also include the world premiere of a new opera by Gordon Kampe with the WDR Symphony Orchestra, written specifically for her voice, as well as performances of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
