Fabio Fausone was born in Turin in 1992 and is currently a tenured professor of cello at the Conservatorio di Musica “S. Giacomantonio” in Cosenza. He is the cellist of the Trio Quodlibet and works as freelance principal cello with various Italian and international orchestras.

After completing his scientific high school diploma at the Liceo Scientifico “Edoardo Agnelli” in Turin, he graduated with top marks and honours from the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Turin, studying with Maestro Sergio Patria and later with Maestro Massimo Macrì. He continued his studies at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano in the class of Maestro Enrico Dindo, obtaining in 2014 a Master of Arts in Music Performance and in 2016 a Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance (Soloist Diploma), both with honours.

He later refined his training at the Accademia Walter Stauffer in Cremona in cello with Antonio Meneses and in chamber music with the Quartetto di Cremona. From 2012 to 2015 he studied with Natalia Gutman at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, and in 2017 with Enrico Dindo at the “Pavia Cello Academy”. He regularly attends masterclasses organized by the “De Sono” Association in Turin with Maestro Thomas Demenga, and has worked with Arto Noras, Jens Peter Maintz, Clemens Hagen, David Watkin, Rocco Filippini, Maximilian Hornung, and Umberto Clerici.

During his studies he received numerous scholarships, including the “De Sono” scholarship (2013–2016), the “Master dei Talenti” scholarship from Fondazione CRT (2014–2015), and the prestigious “ESKAS” scholarship from the Swiss Confederation (2014). In 2014 he won First Prize at the “Francesco Geminiani” competition in Verona, which awarded him the use of a cello attributed to “Francesco Guadagnini Torino 1888” on loan until 2019.

As a soloist he has performed with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana conducted by Enrico Dindo, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Aldo Ceccato, the Archi della Filarmonica di Torino conducted by Sergio Lamberto, and the Orchestra of the Conservatorio di Torino conducted by Giuseppe Ratti.

In 2015 and 2016 he participated in the Mahler Academy in Bolzano and was a full member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2013 to 2016.

He currently collaborates as principal solo cellist with Camerata Salzburg, the orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the orchestra of Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and the Filarmonica di Torino. He also performs regularly with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, Orchestra Leonore, and I Solisti di Pavia. Since 2019 he has collaborated with the historic chamber orchestra “I Musici” in Rome.

Since 2013 he has been cellist and founding member of the string trio Quodlibet with violinist Mariechristine Lopez and violist Virginia Luca. Despite its relatively recent formation, the Trio Quodlibet has performed widely in major national and international festivals and concert series, including the “Concerti del Quirinale” in Rome (broadcast on Rai Radio 3), Unione Musicale in Turin, Società del Quartetto in Milan and Vicenza, Amici della Musica in Florence, Musica Insieme in Bologna, the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, MiTo Festival, as well as tours in South Korea and Southern France.

The trio has worked at major academies including the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, and with ensembles such as the Cuarteto Casals, Quartetto Belcea, Gewandhaus Quartet, Fine Arts Quartet, Dirk Mommertz, and Hariolf Schlichtig. These experiences have led to recognition in major international competitions, including Second Prize at the “Valtidone International Chamber Music Competition” (2016), First Prize at the “European Music Competition” in Moncalieri, and Second Prize at the Massimiliano Antonelli Chamber Music Competition (2018).

In 2019 the Trio Quodlibet undertook a complete Beethoven trio cycle broadcast live on Rai Radio 3, and in 2020 released its first album, Il Re Maggiore, in celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. The ensemble was the first string trio selected for the international project “Le Dimore del Quartetto,” performing regularly for the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane.

Fabio will take part in Trame Sonore 2026 as a soloist, as a member of Trio Quodlibet, and as a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
