Ferdinando Faraò, born in Rome in 1959, began his career as a jazz musician in 1979 at the Capolinea club in Milan. Active both as a sideman and as a bandleader, he has recorded numerous albums acclaimed by both Italian and international critics. In 1997, Listening Self, his first album as leader, was awarded third place in the “Best Albums of the Year” category by the magazine Jazzitaliano. In 2003, Eschersuite, a project dedicated to the renowned Dutch graphic artist and engraver M. C. Escher, was selected among the Best Albums and Best Ensembles in the Top Jazz annual critics’ poll of the magazine Musica Jazz. In 2007, again in the Top Jazz poll, he appeared in four categories simultaneously: Best Album (Pollocksuite), Musician, Composer, and Instrumentalist.

His project dedicated to the American artist Jackson Pollock was also included among the Albums of the Year (four-star selection) by the international web magazine All About Jazz. He has collaborated with ensembles led by major musicians and has performed internationally in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Japan, the Netherlands, Malta, Norway, Scotland, India, and China.

His most recent recording project, released by Dodicilune, is dedicated to the renowned English naturalist Charles Darwin and is entitled Darwinsuite. The album was selected as a recommended release (“blue label”) by the specialist magazine Musica Jazz.
