Pianist and composer Orazio Sciortino (Siracusa, 1984) was named Composer of the Year at the International Classical Music Awards 2024.
He collaborates with major Italian and international musical institutions, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, MiTo Settembremusica, Teatro La Fenice, the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Fondazione Arena di Verona, Bologna Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Sociedad Filarmónica de Lima, Konzerthaus Berlin, the Megaron in Athens, and the Orquesta de Valencia, among others.
He has recorded for labels such as Dynamic, Bottega Discantica, Claves, Naxos, and Sony Classical. His most recent release, in the dual role of conductor and soloist, is the CD C.P.E. Bach – Piano Concertos and other works for solo piano, recorded with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and released by Hänssler Classic.
For musical theatre, he has composed La Paura, an opera on the First World War (Teatro Coccia in Novara, 2015), and Maxima Immoralia, a chamber opera for voices and instruments on the relationship between eros and popular culture, which will premiere in 2025, commissioned by the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano and the Festival Aperto in Reggio Emilia.
He was appointed Krug Ambassador in 2016.
He teaches piano at the “Luca Marenzio” Conservatory of Music in Brescia. He has a passion for cooking and lives in Milan.
