She studied with maestros Carlo Tabarelli and Gabriele Gallotta at the Milan Conservatory, graduating in flute in 2001 with top marks and honours. Immediately after graduating, she was admitted to the Orchestra Professors Academy of the Teatro alla Scala, studying with Glauco Cambursano and Davide Formisano.

As a soloist, she has performed with the Orchestra of the International Piano Festival of Brescia at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Turin Philharmonic, the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cantelli Orchestra, and the Orchestra della Magna Grecia.

A member of the mdi ensemble, she has carried out an intense concert activity in international contexts such as the MNM Festival in Montreal (Canada), Rai Radio 3, the Japan Foundation in Rome, ContemporaneaMente 2005, LACMA Museum in Los Angeles, the Palma de Mallorca Festival, festivals in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, the Cologne Konzerthaus, SWR, the Venice Biennale, MiTo, Milano Musica Festival, the Società del Quartetto di Milano, the Présences Festival of Radio France in Paris, the Sermoneta Festival, and the Acht Brücken Festival in Cologne.

In the role of principal flute, she has also performed with the Orchestra of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, participating in major opera and symphonic productions conducted by maestros such as Mehta, Noseda, Gelmetti, Santi, Rophé, Lombard, Fisch, Axelrod, Mariotti, R. Abbado, Bartoletti, Pal, Reck, Neschling, Tamayo, Encinar, Steinberg, Luisotti, and Abbado.

She has also performed with the Galician Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, the FVG Orchestra, the Turin Philharmonic, the OFI, the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra Verdi of Milan, the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala, and the La Scala Philharmonic, under conductors such as Bychkov, Barenboim, Conlon, Chailly, and Gergiev.

Since November 2023, she has been professor of flute at the Conservatory of Como.

Sonia will participate in Trame Sonore 2026 as a soloist and as a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
