Born on 4 October 1998, the cellist graduated with top marks in 2017 from the Conservatorio di Alessandria in the class of Claudio Merlo, obtaining in the same year a classical high school diploma. In 2020 he completed a Master’s degree with full marks and honours at the Conservatorio di Milano, studying with Matteo Ronchini. In 2021 he completed with distinction (A) the Master of Advanced Studies in Contemporary Music Performance with Asier Polo at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana.

His artistic development has been enriched through masterclasses with M. Chen, Thomas Demenga, S. Guarino, Lynn Harrell, Alisa Weilerstein Meneses, E. Rovner, G. Scaglione, and Giovanni Sollima. He attended the Pavia Cello Academy in 2018 in the class of Enrico Dindo, and in 2019 studied at the Accademia di Fiesole with Natalia Gutman. In 2022 he participated in the Contemporary Cello Week of the EstOvest Festival and in a masterclass of the Ensemble Intercontemporain at the Accademia Stauffer.

In 2016 he won First Prize at the Agimus-Crescendo Competition in Florence. In December of the same year he made his debut with the Orchestra Mozart di Acqui Terme conducted by Aldo Niccolai, performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major. In 2019 he received the Jury First Prize at the Ivrea cello competition dedicated to the best graduates of Piedmont conservatories. In 2020 he won the ex aequo award for Best Soloist at Ducale.LAb in Vercelli. In 2021 he won First Absolute Prize at Campus delle Arti in Rome, receiving the IMAIE prize, which included an international solo tour (Italy, Switzerland, and Slovenia) and a recording contract. In 2022 he was selected to perform the solo part in William Tell at the final concert of Obiettivo Orchestra, and simultaneously ranked first in the internal selection for the Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino. In 2023 he performed Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D major in Saluzzo with the APM School Orchestra.

In chamber formations, including the Quartetto OCMA, he participated in Trame Sonore 2023 and 2024 and at the Cork Chamber Music Festival 2024 (Ireland). Since 2018 he has been a De Sono scholarship holder. He plays a cello by an anonymous 19th-century maker.

Stefano will participate in Trame Sonore 2026 as a member of the Quartetto OCM Academy.
