Stefano Scansani began dedicating himself to journalism and writing during his years at the Liceo Artistico in Verona. From 1975 to 1980, he was among the voices of Teleradio Poggio Rusco, and since 1976 he has worked as a local correspondent for Il Resto del Carlino and later for Gazzetta di Mantova, where he became a staff journalist in 1981. A registered publicist since 1978 and a professional journalist eight years later, he has collaborated with L’Espresso, Corriere della Sera, and the ANSA news agency.
From 1992 to 2009 he was head of the cultural pages, and from 2009 to 2013 chief editor of Gazzetta di Mantova. From 16 March 2013 to 19 April 2016 he directed La Nuova Ferrara, and from April 2016 to December 2020 he led Gazzetta di Reggio.
He is the author of contributions dedicated to history, art, archaeology, and the history of food, and is a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale Virgiliana. He designs and leads cultural itineraries for Festivaletteratura.
As a cultural communicator, in 2020 he developed the foundational project for the Museo Virgilio at the Palazzo del Podestà in Mantua, a museum inaugurated on 7 December 2024.
