The Salone degli Antenati of Palazzo d’Arco, the neoclassical jewel that hosted Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during one of his stays in Italy, once again resonates with his melodies thanks to the young Quartetto Rilke.

The programme juxtaposes two contrasting moments in Mozart’s genius: String Quartet No. 3 in G major, K. 156 (K6 134b), composed when he was only sixteen during his third journey to Italy, and String Quartet No. 21 in D major, K. 575, belonging to the so-called “Prussian” quartets.

In K.156 there still emerges a language linked to the galant style, with a clear hierarchy among the parts and a melodic writing of elegant transparency, strongly influenced by the Italian model. In K.575, by contrast, Mozart reaches full maturity: the four voices achieve a more balanced and contrapuntal dialogue, enriched by refined timbral exploration and a particularly enhanced role for the cello.
