The Trio Vecando is composed of three prize-winning artists: the winner of the 2016 International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, Veriko Tchumburidze; the second prize winner of the 2015 Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition and principal cello of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Dorukhan Doruk; and the winner of the 2018 Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, Can Çakmur.
Having already performed together in Turkey and in many prestigious European venues, the musicians share more than ten years of musical collaboration and friendship predating the formation of Trio Vecando. From an early age, they were part of the “G&S Pekinel Young Musicians on World Stages” project in Turkey, where they first shared the stage. Alongside their friendship, their natural musical rapport and desire to develop a shared artistic language led to the creation of the Trio Vecando.
Since winning the 2016 Henryk Wieniawski International Competition at the age of 20, Veriko Tchumburidze has built a reputation as a compelling soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist, performing regularly with major orchestras such as the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, in legendary venues including Carnegie Hall and the KKL Lucerne. “She is a breath of the future,” said Andrzej Wituski, director of the competition. Her chamber music partners include the Quatuor Ébène, Marc-André Hamelin, and Sol Gabetta. Since 2016 she has played a 1756 Giambattista Guadagnini violin, generously on loan from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
Awarded in numerous international competitions, including the 10th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition, Dorukhan Doruk has performed in major concert halls such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Zurich Tonhalle, Geneva Victoria Hall, and the Warsaw Philharmonic, as well as at festivals including Verbier and Schleswig-Holstein. His album Elusive Lights, released by Genuin, received critical acclaim and was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award. He is a highly sought-after soloist and chamber musician, having collaborated with artists such as Fazıl Say, İdil Biret, and David Geringas, and currently serves as principal cello of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker.
Described by Jean-Charles Hoffelé as “one of the most beautiful pianists of our time,” Can Çakmur won First Prize at the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2018, where he also received the Chamber Music Prize, as well as the 2017 Scottish International Piano Competition. His recordings for BIS have received numerous accolades, including Diapason d’Or, Choc de Classica, and two consecutive ICMA awards. He is currently working on an 11-volume project dedicated to the complete major piano works of Schubert. Alongside his concert career, which has taken him from the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris to Suntory Hall in Tokyo, he is professor of piano at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
