String Quartet in E-flat major

In the intimate setting of Santa Maria della Vittoria, a program that once again highlights the presence of women in music: Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, the composer who in 1834 wrote the String Quartet in E-flat major.

One of the most extraordinary voices of her time—and long overlooked in Romantic music due to social conventions that prevented women from pursuing public artistic careers—Fanny reveals her full compositional mastery through a free harmonic language and a strong poetic imprint. The dialogue woven between the instruments creates a play of light and shadow, between dramatic intensity and vital momentum, culminating in a Romanza of intimate and moving beauty, marked by innovative structure and profound expressiveness, bearing the influence of Beethoven’s late string quartets.

Fanny’s voice will resonate in this new Trame Sonore venue thanks to the young and talented women of the Noies String Quartet and the voice of Elena Benazzi, who will read to the audience selected excerpts from the composer’s letters to her brother Felix.
