Quartetto Doré

The Quartetto Doré, named after the artist Gustave Doré, was founded in 2021 at the Conservatorium Maastricht and consists of four young Italian musicians.

It has quickly gained international recognition, performing at major festivals and institutions in Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, including the Società del Quartetto di Milano, the Società Filarmonica di Trento, Bologna Festival, MantovaMusica, the Orlando Festival, the Musica Sacra Festival in the Netherlands, as well as the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven.

Winner of several awards, the Quartetto Doré has received prizes at the 3rd Swiss International Music Competition, the 14th Luigi Cerritelli International Music Competition, and the Virtuoso & Belcanto Chamber Music Competition 2024, and was awarded a scholarship from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

The ensemble has been selected to participate in courses and masterclasses such as the Zeister Muziekdagen and the Orlando European Summer Course for Chamber Music (Netherlands), the 70th Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus in Weikersheim (Germany), ECMA/Musethica sessions in Grafenegg (Austria), as well as a Musethica session in the Kinzigtal (Germany) and the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in Lucca.

The Quartetto Doré has collaborated with musicians such as Eckart Runge, cellist of the Artemis Quartet, as well as soloists Anna Agafia Egholm and Anthony Ratinov.

The ensemble is enrolled in the “Ébène Quartet Academy” with the Quatuor Ébène at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, the advanced string quartet program at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona with the Quartetto di Cremona, as well as the chamber music course at the Accademia Perosi in Biella with Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) and the Nederlandse StrijkKwartet Academie in Utrecht with Marc Danel (Quatuor Danel).

It has also taken part in masterclasses with some of the most prestigious chamber music mentors, including Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet) through a collaboration with the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet), David Finckel (Emerson String Quartet), Luc-Marie Aguera and Miguel Da Silva (Ysaÿe Quartet), and members of the Jerusalem Quartet.

In 2024, the Quartetto Doré won the Pro Canale grant awarded by the Accademia Stauffer, gaining access to perform on four historical instruments from the Pro Canale Foundation collection.

The Quartetto Doré has also been selected to join the “Le Dimore del Quartetto” network.
