Stefano Rossi was born in Brescia and began playing the horn at the age of seven in the band of his hometown. He later studied at the conservatories of Darfo Boario Terme, Brescia, Mantua, the Royal College in Manchester, and ESMUC in Barcelona.
After completing his studies, he began his career working across orchestral, chamber, and solo contexts. He has collaborated with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Vasily Petrenko, Andris Nelsons, Daniel Harding, Riccardo Chailly, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniele Gatti, and Kent Nagano, among many others. He has worked with soloists including Martha Argerich, Yuja Wang, Alexander Lonquich, Nicolas Altstaedt, and Isabelle Faust.
Among symphonic orchestras, he has collaborated with the BBC Philharmonic, the Orchestra of La Scala, Sinfonia Varsovia, Orchestra Mozart, and many others. In opera, he has worked with Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In chamber orchestra settings, he has collaborated with the Münchener Kammerorchester, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, and Spira Mirabilis.
In recent years he has also devoted himself to historical instruments, performing as principal horn with ensembles such as Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, Il Pomo d’Oro, Concerto Köln, Dresdner Musikfestspiele, Il Suonar Parlante, Il Giardino Armonico, and the Haydn Philharmonie.
Stefano also works as a horn professor at international academies and Italian conservatories.
Stefano Rossi will take part in Trame Sonore 2026 as a soloist, as a member of Solanè and of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
