Irene Piazza

Violin

Irene Piazza is a Sicilian violinist currently based in the Netherlands.

She graduated in 2022 from the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she studied first with Ilya Grubert and later with Vera Beths. She has recently won the audition for violin section player at the Residentie Orkest. Previously, she has collaborated with orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Haydn Orchestra of Trento and Bolzano, and the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari Orchestra. In 2023 she was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

Passionate about chamber music, she is currently first violin of the Rijks Quartet and a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, with which she has collaborated since 2021.

Her interests extend beyond the classical repertoire: she has experience in improvisation and interdisciplinary performance. She is a permanent member of the collective WORDS, an improvisation project conceived by Matteo Paggi, with whom she recorded their debut album released in February 2024.

Irene plays a L. Houniet violin and a L. H. Gillet bow, both kindly provided by the Dutch foundation Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds.

Irene will participate in Trame Sonore 2026 as a member of the Noies String Quartet and of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
