This concert, hosted in the evocative Sala dei Cavalli, traces a journey through the “modernity” of the early twentieth century. The program offers a passage between the dreamlike atmospheres of French post-impressionism and the Italian neoclassical clarity, in which flute, violin, and piano engage in a constant search for light and transparency.
The program opens with music by Mélanie Bonis, one of the most original voices of the Belle Époque, whose Suite en trio is a perfect example: a musical gem that blends French elegance with pastoral evocations. In contrast, the more essential experiments of Nino Rota emerge in his Trio, which focuses on strong communicative immediacy: the instrumental interplay is tight yet fluid, characterized by melodic ideas that seem to arise from a cinematic imagination, while remaining within a rigorous and refined chamber structure.
The program closes with Philippe Gaubert’s Médailles antiques, immersing the listener in mythological and dreamlike atmospheres: among nymphs and archaic dances, music becomes image, finding its ideal resonance in the frescoes of Palazzo Te.
The performers Marco Orefice, Stella Canocchi, and Yeyoung Eom form an ensemble whose strength lies in timbral cohesion and interpretative freshness. Their reading seeks to highlight the subtle coloristic textures of this repertoire, where virtuosity is never an end in itself but always in service of poetic expression.
